ROME?Owners of Taco Del Mar celebrated the opening of their restaurant on Friday, a project that has been in the works for over a decade.

Matt Moore and his father, Bill Moore knew that they should open a different type of restaurant, something that would set them apart.

?Anything but pizza and wings I would say there is a need for around here,? said Matt Moore.

He mentioned that after living in the western part of the United States for a number of years Moore noticed a type of eatery that Rome lacked, Mexican.

?I was probably about 10 years old when I fell in love with a chicken taco in San Antonito, Texas,? Moore said. ?The idea that you can branch out and try different types of meats and tortillas.?

Moore said the restaurant offers burritos, nachos, tacos, quesadillas, taco salads and fish tacos. There are five different kinds of meat for customers to choose from. There are also vegetarian and gluten free options available.

?I hope this brings good Mexican food and a nice fun, what we call a Baja atmosphere,? Moore said.

Taco Del Mar is located on 827 Black River Blvd. the site of a former pharmacy.

The restaurant is open 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
