Have you ever thought of using your Windows XP computer as a fax machine? What if you didn?t even have to purchase any software to make the program work? If you?ve installed a fax board or a modem on your computer (or have a way to attach a phone line) then you?ll be able to use Windows XP as a fax machine. The only hassle is that Windows XP does not install the program by default. This means that you?ll need to add it in. It is, however, already included with Windows XP.
Any person with a business or home fax machine should consider this and change over to moving their faxes onto their computer. You can then just use your printer or scanner to transmit documents. You?ll find that it feels like you have a whole new desk with all the added space. And when you consider the time spent managing and repairing technology, you?ll find that there?s a lot more hours in the day.
Here is a tip for you business owners and office managers: I know from personal experience that Faxes can be pulled from the Fax machine unreadable. You can reduce your costs by getting rid of your fax machine and turn the company to a policy of ?email only?. Calling a customer asking them to resend a fax can be a waste of your time. It?s also an embarrassment to your business. It?s easier to never have to call those customers back again because of a missed fax.
Here?s how you install the fax software onto Windows XP: Select Start, then Control Panel, then Add & Remove Programs, then Add & Remove Windows Components. This will let you install the program onto your computer.
The next thing you?ll need to do is make sure that the option for ?fax services? is checked off. Once you have done this, press ?next? and follow the prompts through the installer ? you may be asked to put the Windows XP CD into the system tray to complete the installation.
The configuration for the program can be found by selecting the following choices: Start ?> All Programs ?> Accessories ?> Communications ?> Fax ?> Fax Console.
When the Fax Configuration Wizard starts, go through the steps to enter sender information, select the modem you want to use, (probably the only one listed) and choose whether you want to be able to send or receive faxes, or both.
Enter the TSID information: Info that appears as a header when you send a Fax and the CSID information that is displayed on the sending fax machine. (The TSID and CSID usually consist of a fax number and business name.)
The next thing to consider is whether you want your fax machine to automatically or manually answer the calls it gets. Manual answer will mean that whenever the phone line rings, you have ot press a button on the computer to pick up the line as a fax machine. Automatically answer means that the fax service will automatically pick up any time that the line rings.
Done! Now you can send and/or receive faxes! If you want to of course. You can manage your Faxes by clicking ?Start?, Accessories?, ?Communications?, ?Fax?.
