The elements used in feng shui are earth, metal, water, fire, and wood. An understanding of the concepts of Yin (quiet) and Yang (active) energies would ensure that the elements in a room complement each other and so fosters harmony in the place as good chi or positive energy fills in all the spaces.

On the way into the house, placing some greenery, a mirror and side table to put down things would certainly be welcoming to any guest. Natural light and air can bring into the house its own energies when there are open spaces like a living area or hallway. Improve the visuals but do not overdo it so as not to clutter the area. People should be seated to encourage conversation and interaction but always in sight of the door. When unavoidable, a mirror can be used for that purpose.

Feng shui is a process and to know what is feng shui decorating is to learn by doing it, a few steps at a time. As the system dwell on energies, it should be able to generate the feeling of ease as one creates the environment long wanted.
