UK lawmakers used public money to create websites (AP)

LONDON ? An expenses watchdog says British legislators investigated after they used taxpayer funds to create websites won't need to return any money because rules weren't properly enforced.

The Independent Parliament Standards Authority acknowledged on Tuesday it was partly to blame after lawmakers used public funds for websites that included party political symbols.

Lawmakers aren't permitted to use public money for political campaigning.

The authority said 20 legislators, including ex-Home Secretary Alan Johnson, had their claims checked.

In 2009, a leak of previously secret expense files revealed how politicians had billed the public for items including an ornamental duck house and pornographic movies.

Six legislators have so far been jailed in that scandal.
