News Flash: New Vegan Beauty Network! Vegan Consultant

Todra Payne who brought us The Healthy Beauty Project has a new creation called Healthy Beauty Social. I love following Todra on twitter?and she is really supportive of the vegan beauty care movement. When I heard about Healthy Beauty Social I asked Todra to share with us the details so here?s the scoop:

Healthy Beauty Social is the new online beauty social network for women who want to change their beauty products to reflect their overall healthy lifestyle choices. We created HBS as an extension to The Healthy Beauty Project, our informative beauty blog focusing on non-toxic, natural and organic beauty.

The idea was to have a community where women could share their beauty knowledge with each other, ask each other questions and find great beauty products at reasonable prices. A blog lacks the gems found when you crowd source ideas and knowledge. But a social network, as we know from sites like Facebook, has the power of the crowd. If that power is used for good and not evil, it?s a beautiful thing.

Another great part about the social network (if I do say so myself) is the recommended brands page. We?ve included beauty brands that we?ve screened for healthy ingredients, great products and awesome customer service.

The women in our new community know they can trust the brands we have listed on the site because we?ve proven our commitment to showcasing healthy brands on our parent site, HBP.

Right in the network, the women can converse with the brand owners, ask them about ingredients, textures, colors, application ? anything at all. We?ll also be implementing a review system, something like Amazon?s reviews for books, for women to share their experience with a brand or a product. This makes it easy for other women to decide if they want to try a particular product from one of our recommended brands based on other women?s experiences.

We also have groups so women can gather around a particular topic, like homemade beauty products (the women share recipes for everything from face creams to sugar scrubs). Currently, we have six groups, one of them specifically geared towards vegan beauty. We realize some women have health concerns (like being allergic to carmine) and ethical issues with using products that include anything that originated with an animal. And some of the brands we feature have a large percentage of their lines dedicated to vegan beauty. Our network is a place where the hunt for such products can be easier.

Unlike some other social networks, we?re very hands-on with this. And we intend to continue that. Not because we?re control freaks, but because we are so passionate about keeping the network friendly and open. It?s not a fanatical green site where someone who?s just starting out is afraid to visit because they?re intimidated. We want to maintain the easy going vibe we?ve created during our beta stage. We?re also diligent about keeping spammers out. This means non-screened beauty brands, MLM reps and a myriad of other companies who have already tried to by-pass our screening process. That?s been a hassle, but overall, we?re having a ball with the women in the network.

What?s next? We?re creating digital products to assist women in their quest to go healthier with their beauty routine ? from phone apps to videos to ebooks. Our first product has just launched. It?s the Healthy Beauty Spy phone app for Android and iPhone. It?s a web-based database of cosmetic ingredients and their associated health concerns. We?ve created a companion online

version so if a woman is shopping in a store or online, she?ll be able to see what those 25-letter ingredients are and decide if she wants to buy that product. There?s so much marketing hype around ?green? now it?s crazy. This tool will cut through to the truth of the matter ? what do the ingredients say?

The app and the online search tool are bundled together at $2.99.
