Ford Recalling More Than 20000 Trucks and SUVs - Automotive.com Blogs

Ford has announced it?s recalling about 20,450 trucks and SUVs because of a defective brake light switch. The recall effects a number of 2004 through 2011 Ranger pickups, 2002 through 2005 Excursion SUV?s, and 2002 through 2007 F-250, F-350, 450, and 550 trucks. All affected vehicles were built at the Twin Cities assembly plant in St. Paul, MN from January 25, 2011 to April 25, 2011.

The taillights on these models do triple duty as brake lights, turn signals and hazard lights, and are operated by a multi-function switch. Ford believes a slider in this switch is the root of the problem, with a glitch that causes the lights to cease functioning altogether.

On top of the vehicles Ford is calling back, another 6000 switches that were sent out to remedy the problem are being recalled as well. Ford says it has no record of accidents or injuries that occurred because of the problem. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by Ford and local dealerships will replace the switch at no cost. The recall is expected to begin around August 15, 2011. For more information owners with affected vehicles may contact the Ford Motor Company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration?s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to safercar.gov.
