Research In Motion?s CEO, Thorsten Heins, has unveiled some interesting tid bits during his interview with The Telegraph. Along with discussing how RIM has investigated whether or not to license BlackBerry 10, Heins discussed how the company?seriously? considered using Android.
?We took the conscious decision not to go Android,? Heins said. ?If you look at other suppliers? ability to differentiate, there?s very little wiggle room. We looked at it seriously ? but if you understand what the promise of BlackBerry is to its user base it?s all about getting stuff done. Games, media, we have to be good at it but we have to support those guys who are ahead of the game. Very little time to consume and enjoy content ? if you stay true to that purpose you have to build on that basis. And if we want to serve that segment we can?t do it on a me-too approach.?
While we?re glad RIM was weighing all options, we?re even more glad they took the less road traveled and decided to stick with BlackBerry 10. RIM has had their own issues with device fragmentation and Android would have only furthered it. Are you happy with what you?ve seen so far of BlackBerry 10? Do you think dismissing Android was the best decision for RIM?
