Touch Bionics releases new prosthetic fingers, flips the old ones the bird

Touch Bionics releases new prosthetic fingers, flip the old ones the bird

The only upgrades available for our puny human hands are gaming controller calluses, but if you're sporting an i-LIMB digits hand prosthesis, you can now grab a set of improved fingers. Touch Bionics' "smaller, lighter and more anatomically accurate" appendages are now available worldwide, as well as a new wrist-band unit which houses all the necessary computing power and juice for their function. Best of all, these developments allow more people to adopt the tech than the previous generation, including those with more petite hands or finger amputations closer to the knuckle. We don't know how much it'll cost for a fresh set, but we'll let health agencies and insurance companies deal with that part. With these upgrades and RSL Steeper's latest offering, it won't be long before our flesh-based variants are meager in comparison.

Rain slows the pace at State Fair of Texas

by WENDY CORONA

WFAA

Updated yesterday at 10:56 PM

DALLAS ? The show must go on... but sometimes, it just can't.

Saturday's steady rain curtailed some scheduled events at the State Fair of Texas. The latest washout was the featured evening concert with Kevin Costner and Modern West.

Also rained out were the first two days of parades, the grand opening day ceremony, Marine Corps concerts, and one celebration that was six decades in the making ? a 60th birthday bash for State Fair icon Big Tex.

Plans to toast Big Tex at 1 p.m. Sunday will go on, and will be moved indoors if necessary. Fingers are crossed that the first parade of the Fair can finally happen on Day 3.

It's been bad so far, but it was worse in 1984. "There was one year where we had probably 15 days of rain out of the whole Fair," said State Fair spokeswoman Sue Gooding. "It was the wettest, but even then people were here."

Twenty-eight years later, there?s still lots of rain... and still people are at the fair.

Marlo and Sheree Hollie said the fair is a tradition that a little wet weather can't stop.

"We wait on it all year, so we make sure as soon as it opens we come and enjoy," Marlo said.

And for the Holtzclaws from San Angelo, everything went just as planned.

"It's our 17th anniversary, and we had this planned for our anniversary, so here we are," Linda Holtzclaw said.

Their rain hats, however, were not planned. Those were purchased at the Fair.

"This is the best kind of rain that we like to see here in North Texas: A slow, steady rain," said WFAA meteorologist Steve McCauley.

He said showers will linger in Sunday's forecast, but not nearly as heavy or as widespread.

As of 6 p.m. Saturday, rain totals ranged from 2.23 inches in Arlington to 1.7 inches in Mesquite to 1.05 inches at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Abilene recorded a staggering 6.33 inches of precipitation, with 4.01 inches in Palestine and 3.02 inches in Waco.

Thousands of Poles protest pro-market reforms

WARSAW, Poland (AP) ? Thousands of Poles blew horns, prayed and waved flags in downtown Warsaw on Saturday to show their anger over a new law that raises the retirement age and a host of other issues.

The protest was organized by the conservative and nationalistic opposition party Law and Justice, led by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, as well as the Solidarity trade union and other groups.

Dubbed "Wake Up, Poland," the protest is an expression of the deep anxieties gripping many Poles as the government tries to lower state debt by embracing pro-market reforms that are weakening the social safety net.

Many of the protesters are also conservative Catholics ill at ease in a country that is quickly growing more secular as it grows wealthier and more integrated with the West.

A key source of anger for the protesters is a new law put through by the pro-market government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk which will gradually raise the retirement age to 67 for all Poles from 60 for women and 65 for men.

Participants also expressed anger at a decision by the Polish national broadcasting council to strip a Catholic TV station, TV Trwam, of a free digital TV signal. They argue that it marks a blow to freedom of expression and an attempt to silence their conservative and Catholic world view. The broadcasting council, however, has said the station lost its transmission rights because of a lack of transparency in its funding.

Protesters sang patriotic and religious songs as they gathered at Three Crosses Square in downtown Warsaw, some of them holding rosaries.

"Our presence here is a sign of opposition to the discrimination against Catholic media and TV Trwam," Zbigniew Ziobro, a leading conservative politician, told protesters, according to the news agency PAP.

Police had no estimate yet for the number of protesters, but private broadcaster TVN24 said tens of thousands turned out.

Newspaper: D.C. sniper Malvo felt like 'worst piece of scum'

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Convicted D.C. sniper Lee Boyd Malvo said in a newspaper interview published Sunday that the devastated reaction of a victim's husband made him feel like "the worst piece of scum."

Malvo expresses remorse in the interview with The Washington Post (wapo.st/SrLk9I) and urged the families of victims to try and forget about him and his partner John Allen Muhammad so they can move on. Tuesday marks the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the deadly spree in the Washington area carried out by Malvo and John Allen Muhammad. The pair has been linked to 27 shootings across the country, including 10 fatal attacks in the Washington area.

Malvo, 27, told the Post in a rare interview that the look on the face of victim Linda Franklin's husband right after she was shot stands out in his memory of the rampage. Franklin, a 47-year-old FBI analyst, was killed as she and her husband loaded supplies outside a Home Depot in Falls Church, Va.

"They are penetrating," Malvo said of Ted Franklin's eyes. "It is the worst sort of pain I have ever seen in my life. His eyes ... Words do not possess the depth in which to fully convey that emotion and what I felt when I saw it. ... You feel like the worst piece of scum on the planet."

Malvo is serving a life sentence with no parole at a prison in southwest Virginia for killing Franklin. Muhammad was executed in Virginia in 2009

The sniper-style attacks all but paralyzed the nation's capital, as people were shot at random while going about their everyday life ? pumping gas, buying groceries, and for one young boy, as he went to school. The shooters used a high-powered rifle, firing from the trunk of a modified Chevy Caprice until they were tracked down at a Maryland rest stop.

Malvo also repeated previous assertions that he was manipulated by the older Muhammad during the string of attacks that took place when Malvo was 17. But he acknowledges: "I was a monster."

Malvo has declined to respond to many media requests, including letters from The Associated Press. He was interviewed in 2010 for a cable TV special.

When asked by the Post what he would say to victims' families, the remorseful Malvo said there's no way to properly convey an apology.

"We can never change what happened," Malvo said. "There's nothing that I can say except don't allow me and my actions to continue to victimize you for the rest of your life."

He added: "Don't allow myself or Muhammad to continue to make you a victim for the rest of your life. It isn't worth it."

Linda Franklin's father, Charles Moore, was incredulous about the idea that victims' relatives would be able to forget about what Malvo and Muhammad did.

"There's no way. I can't believe that. No one can go through something like that," Moore said in a phone interview with The Associated Press.

Moore said he believes his daughter's slaying contributed to his wife's death several years later.

"What he did just destroyed my family. I'll never be able to put it aside. Never," he said.

"There are things that stand out in your life that you think about. I'm 83 years old and I'll carry it to my grave."

PFT: Spencer questionable for Dallas Monday night

New Orleans Saints v Carolina PanthersGetty Images

Since he wasn?t being asked to rush the passer last season, Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan ballooned up to 300 pounds.

But now that he has a coach who trusts him, and needs him, a slimmed down Jordan is beginning to justify the first-round pick they spent on him.

?It?s awesome to be able to have the trust from the coaches to be able to do all these positions,? Jordan told Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com.

Jordan might be the one qualified pass-rushing defensive lineman to truly fit into defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo?s system in New Orleans, and he?s getting plenty of chances.

Pigeonholed a year ago as a run-stopper only, and subbed out on third downs, Jordan bulked up.

?Halfway through the season, it was like, ?I?m going to be stuck in this role, I?m going to hit somebody in the mouth [on running plays],? Jordan said. ?I don?t need to worry about pass rush anymore. It was a bitter moment.?

But unlike former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, Spagnuolo isn?t going to blitz as much, wanting to get all his pressure from his front four.

And he?s using the now-285-pound Jordan all along the front four to try to get some push, the way Spagnuolo used to use Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora in New York.

?Everyone has comparisons of what I could be or can do,? Jordan said. ?It?s more along the lines of, ?What do our coaches think I can do now???

He leads all NFL defensive linemen in tackle. That?s partly because the Saints can?t get off the field, allowing the fourth-most plays from scrimmage in the league. But he?s also been noticeable in his impact, something that wasn?t being said last year.

Wheelchair Sports Camp at Hi-Dive on 10/04/2012 08:30 PM MDT

Wheelchair Sports Camp

Wheelchair Sports Camp

Wheelchair Sports Camp, the Denver based pseudo hip-hop band is Kalyn as MC/producer, Abi McGaha Miller as vocalist/saxophone, brother Isaac as live rhythm, and Christopher Behm-Meyer as DJ B*Money. The band unknowingly started in the summer of 1997 when Kalyn moved back from Burbank, CA to her Denver hometown and was invited to attend and corrupt the 14th annual week-long Wheelchair Sports Camp. Having grown-up listening to TLC, Salt -n- Pepa, Missy Elliot and The Pharcyde despite her parent's recommendations, Kalyn entered a talent show at the age of 12 rapping originial rhymes over a cassette of herself beatboxing. After meeting Abi and later brother Isaac in college, Kalyn combined talents to create a more live, jazzy, funky, combination to the traditional hip-hop group. And after hitting their groove with DMC national finalist DJ B*Money, they had everything a group could need to call themselves a good band. The unconventional setup of live instruments, turntables and Kalyn's produced beats, presents a polished sound unique to the hip hop game with old-school lyrics that maintain a sarcastic yet independent and heavy consciousness. After playing for a few years around the Denver metro area, the group has been fortunate enough to share the stage with headliners and mentors like Raekwon, Rahzel, Zion I, Souls Of Mischief, good friend One Be Lo & Binary Star, Blueprint, Mr. Dibbs, Macklemore, DubConscious, Pep Love, Astronautalis and many more. The band has played outside home in places including New York, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and continues to expand their fanbase in further markets.
Wheelchair Sports Camp persists to stay passionate about many causes, playing shows to raise money and awareness to prevent domestic violence, support Haiti relief efforts, promote equality, advocate an end to the war in the Middle East, aid the homeless, and The OCCUPY Denver movement as well. Taking a nod from one of their favorite artists Radiohead, Wheelchair Sports Camp always has free or pay what you can CDs available at shows for fans. "If you can't afford music or food, steal it!" has been their motto since inception. Their goal is to spread their music like wildfire, and they encourage their fans to share and borrow creativity in hopes to conserve a free culture. To them, it's the only way to keep their music headed in the right direction without allowing money and greed to interfere with the creative process.

Men in Burka

Men in Burka

"Men in Burka is the latest project of Kamran Khan ?the
Ramadan-Dadaist from Denver? who is best known for his work with indie art electronic group Modern Witch. The fascinating mind of electronic aficionado, Strange Powers and popular contemporary visual artist & fellow Modern Witch member Mario Zoots complete the trio. The first time you hear Men In Burka, a sultry kundalini rises from within and dongs a knell at the crusty lids of your mind?s eye. Occurring upon your spirit, addictive as black powder from Tangier. Men In Burka are the sultans of making an impression on your mind. It?s unforgettable.
Your brain softly drum-smokes with subtle aromatic tealeaves and dried fruits over an unrecallable time span. Such stickiness is powerful arsenal in an online music world overflowing with content upon content. This is real intelligent danceable world music heralding from the USA. Bounce music waves lap explicitly upon Mesopotamia/Indus Valley soundscapes and god?s soldiers who contemplate the decade?s affrays. Samples of gunfire, riot, upheaval and unrest litter the
tracks intermittently and constantly.

New clues about ancient water cycles shed light on US deserts

Friday, September 28, 2012

The deserts of Utah and Nevada have not always been dry. Between 14,000 and 20,000 years ago, when large ice caps covered Canada during the last glacial cooling, valleys throughout the desert southwest filled with water to become large lakes, scientists have long surmised. At their maximum size, the desert lakes covered about a quarter of both Nevada and Utah. Now a team led by a Texas A&M University researcher has found a new water cycle connection between the U.S. southwest and the tropics, and understanding the processes that have brought precipitation to the western U.S. will help scientists better understand how the water cycle might be perturbed in the future.

Mitch Lyle, professor of oceanography, led the study with colleagues from Columbia University, University of California-Santa Cruz, Stanford University, Hokkaido University of Japan, Brown University and the U.S. Geological Survey. Their work, funded by the National Science Foundation, is published in the current issue of Science magazine.

The dry shorelines of these glacial lakes were first discovered by 19th century geologists when the west was first explored, Lyle explains, adding that the source of the additional water has been a mystery. By assembling data from ocean sediments and from dry western valleys collected over the last 30 years, Lyle and the team found a new water cycle connection between the southwest U.S. and the tropics.

"Large ice caps profoundly altered where storms went during glacial periods. Before this study, it was assumed that Pacific winter storms that now track into Washington and Canada were pushed south into central and southern California," Lyle notes.

"However, by comparing timing between wet intervals on the coast, where these storms would first strike, with growth of the inland lakes, we found that they didn't match."

The team was able to time wet periods along the California coast from pollen buried in marine sediments from cores archived by scientists at the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program at Texas A&M. They evaluated lake level studies from southeast Oregon, Nevada, Utah, eastern California, New Mexico, and west Texas to find when lakes filled in different parts of the west.

"Many teams of scientists have been working on this problem since the 1950s, when radiocarbon dating first allowed ages to be put on old shorelines," Lyle adds. "The data we synthesized covers a wide latitude so that we could determine how the glacial wet intervals operated."

Only southern California coastal wet intervals matched with the progression of high lakes inland, pointing to the development of a tropical connection, where storms cycled into the region from the tropical Pacific, west of southern Mexico.

"We think that the extra precipitation may have come in summer, enhancing the now weak summer monsoon in the desert southwest. But we need more information about what season the storms arrived to strengthen this speculation," Lyle says.

Not only is the development of the glacial lakes important from a paleoclimate perspective, but it is likely that the lakes were important to the migration of people into North America, Lyle believes. Many of the archaeological sites where early Indians settled when they first came into the U.S. are rock shelters at the edges of these ancient lakes. The lakes were a major source of fish, and a gathering place for deer and wildfowl at that time.

"What we need to do now is look at all of this on a finer scale," Lyle points out. "We need to understand better the processes that directed the storms thousands of years ago, and to predict better what changes might occur in the future."

By fining the real cheats in big business and bureaucracy with ruthless courage, George Osborne could wipe out around ?1.2 trillion of UK debt by Thursday next week. He knows it ? and everyone with any Sovereign finance nous knows it. Were he to do this, the markets would reward Britain more than handsomely.

Rep: Green Day's Armstrong getting treatment | Mexico Vacations

(AP) ? Green Day?s Billie Joe Armstrong is headed to treatment for substance abuse.

Sunday?s announcement by the band?s rep comes after the 40-year-old frontman had a meltdown onstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on Friday. As Green Day was wrapping up its performance during the all-star, two-day concert, Armstrong profanely complained that the band?s time was being cut short.

?One minute left, one minute (expletive) left. You?re gonna give me (expletive) one minute? ? I?m not (expletive) Justin Bieber, you (expletives)!? he yelled (although Bieber was not part of the night?s festivities).

Armstrong smashed his guitar before leaving the stage.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Green Day apologized ?to those they offended at the iHeartRadio Festival? and said its set was not cut short by Clear Channel, the host of the two-day festival.

The Grammy winning band also is canceling some of its promotional appearances. It is due to release the album ?Uno? on Tuesday, the follow-up to ?21st Century Breakdown,? released three years ago. ?Uno? is the first in a trilogy of albums; the second is to be out in November, and the last in January. The band is due to kick off a nationwide tour Nov. 26 in Seattle.

Armstrong was hospitalized in early September in Bologna, Italy, for an undisclosed ailment, but recovered well enough to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 6. Since then, the band has made a series of performances, including a ?Good Morning America? performance and a New York City concert for the launch of Nokia Music on Sept. 15. No interviews of the band were allowed that evening, but the band chatted with fans and Nokia and AT&T executives before performing for about two hours.

It?s unclear what Armstrong is receiving treatment for; in 2003, he was arrested for DUI, and has acknowledged in the past taking various drugs but has said he now eschews them.

Green Day is one of rock?s top acts and had huge success with its 2004 politically charged album ?American Idiot,? which went on to become a Broadway musical. Armstrong performed for a stretch in the musical.

Most recently, he was a mentor on the NBC talent competition ?The Voice.?

A Bootlegged Google Maps App is Coming Soon to iOS 6 [Video]

Really it was only a matter of time, but this was still surprisingly fast. What you see above is the iOS 5.1 version of Google Maps running—albeit a little jankily—in iOS 6. The porting was done by one Ryan Petrich, who says the port is working pretty well, but isn't quite ready for release to the public yet. Yet. More »

Project Description:

I am starting a new business and I?m too immersed in it to find the perfect name. Or, I had one I was hoping (pretty unrealistically) to use, but there are trademark issues, so I?m back to the drawing board and I need your help!

Here?s what you need to know about the business:
? Line of ?real? clothes (professional and eventually street casual wear) for women with super-fit physiques who need/want to dress professionally/sophisticated/casually cool outside the gym and don?t want to have every item of clothes tailored to fit their physique well. Think feminine physique and look, though, not masculine or boy-shaped. Wide shoulders and back but tiny waists, shape. Attached are images, examples of my customer base.
? I?m NOT looking for a name that implies fitness wear or active wear.
? The idea is to be able to feel confident in your presentation inside and outside the gym ? selling not just clothing, but confidence ? with the right fit, you look and feel confident and good about yourself.
? Sophisticated, cool, clean, minimalist
? Price point example ? white blouse somewhere in $60-80 range (still working on this)
? Gender-neutral ? eventually adding a men?s line
? Strong ? preferably one word.
? Can be made up word, but has to be easy to spell and somehow describe/relate/imply the business.
? The .com domain name also needs to be available so please check that. Or one of the two following variations of the name, xxxclothing.com or xxxapparel.com.
? I have already researched FIT as the name (TM not available, domain not available). Would prefer a name that doesn?t include the word ?fit? as I?ve tried a whole host of ideas other than the word itself and they all seem to imply active wear. Unless can come with something/some way to incorporate that doesn?t?.

I look forward to hearing from you!! Thank you!

Florida Gameday Saturday Morning Links

I can?t believe it has already been four years since the walk-on freshman Taylor Wyndham laid out the Heisman candidate Tim Tebow one night in Lexington. Wyndham, now a senior, will be one of our captains leading the Cats onto the field today. Last week Taylor recorded a career high seven tackles in the loss to Western. But there?s only one tackle I care to see today. I just want to see him lay a hit on Jeff Driskel like he put on Tim Tebow. With that said on to some game day links:

?

-The Cats are back on the gridiron today as number 14 Florida tries to extend their winning streak. Both Florida and Kentucky have done the majority of their scoring in the second half to this point in the season so today both teams will be looking to get off to a fast start.

-So what do the Cats have to look forward to today? ?We?re going to get a bunch of big, angry guys over on the [defensive] side,? was one of the quotes from Randy Sanders. Florida features two projected first rounders, hopefully Max Smith and the line can stay out of trouble.

-While Kentucky may be on the wrong side of the nation?s longest winning streak last years game against Tennessee does provide some hope. In order to do that though there is no way the Cats can keep giving up 399 ypg.

-After a four interception game last week it is a good thing that Max Smith has a short memory. His ability to move on has him sitting at third in the nation in completion percentage.

-Cal rushed back from the recruiting trail to get back to the Big Blue Madness campout. Cal set up speakers and grabbed a mic to address the crowd in a speech that punctuated the campout.

-The biggest story out of the ticket line was the Nerlens Noel dunk/wipeout. The story has been featured all over the web making the front page of Yahoo as well as a write-up on CBS in addition to several other web sites. Only at Kentucky could a botched jam result in such coverage.

City of Madison, employees union strike deal

The city of Madison could save $2 million under a proposed contract with its largest union, a deal made possible after a court ruling this month put portions of the state?s collective bargaining law on hold.

An agreement with AFSCME Local 60, which represents about 1,100 workers, is set to go before the union and the City Council this week.

The deal, which would run from March 2014 to March 2015, would let the city reduce wages or health benefits by up to 3 percent. That amounts to about $2 million, Mayor Paul Soglin said Saturday.

The contract would prevent further cuts and preserve union rights the state law would take away, such as grievance arbitration, AFSCME Local 60 staff representative Jennifer McCulley said.

?What we got out of it was the security of having everything in place for one more year,? McCulley said.

Soglin said the agreement would let the city maintain service levels while extending the life of the union. ?A strong union is a valuable asset in a public workplace,? he said.

The city and the union discussed the measure Friday. McCulley said the union will vote on it Tuesday. A special City Council meeting to consider the proposal is tentatively set for Thursday, Soglin said.

The city on Monday plans to talk with other unions about similar deals, the mayor said.

The Dane County Board on Thursday approved agreements to keep most of its unions alive through 2015. The deals could save $5 million in 2015 through furloughs and voluntary leaves.

The negotiations were enabled by a Sept. 14 ruling by Dane County Circuit Judge Juan Colas that found parts of Act 10 unconstitutional. The 2011 law, championed by Gov. Scott Walker and his legislative allies, virtually eliminated collective bargaining rights for most public employees.

State Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen on Tuesday asked Colas to delay enforcement of his ruling until an appeal can be heard. But a decision is likely to take weeks, giving governments and unions time to negotiate new contracts if they choose.

In March 2011, when another court order temporarily stalled the law, AFSCME Local 60 and the city reached a three-year deal through March 2014. It called for 2 percent wage hikes on the last pay periods of 2011 and 2012 and a 3 percent increase on the last pay period of 2013.

In exchange, union members agreed to pay 6 percent of health insurance premiums starting in January 2013 and another 6 percent at the beginning of 2014, and contribute half of the cost of their pensions starting in January 2012.

That contract and the new one also say the city will work with the union to avoid layoffs.

Vatican Official Calls for Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy

Archbishop Mamberti Addresses General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency

By Pietro Gennarini

VIENNA, Austria, SEPT. 20, 2012 (Zenit.org).- Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See, addressed the 56th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna on Monday. The autonomous international organization was established by the United Nations as a means to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Citing a speech given by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007, Archbishop Mamberti underlined the importance of promoting a "progressive and agreed upon nuclear disarmament and to support the use of peaceful and safe nuclear technology for authentic development, respecting the environment".

While emphasizing the risk of a lack of ethical interaction between people and nations, the archbishop highlighted the challenges connected with nuclear development, saying that they can only be addressed by "cultivating a culture of peace founded upon the primacy of law and the respect for human life".

The "international community should show an effective and visible expression of intent to construct and strengthen a global legal basis for the systematic elimination of all nuclear weapons", he said. In this light, the Holy See regards the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as "a cornerstone of the global nuclear non-proliferation regime".

"Global security should not rely on nuclear weapons", he said, while stressing that the "Holy See considers the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) an important tool to achieve this aim". The Holy See believes that by working together, the enforcement of the treaty will be a great leap forward for the future of humanity.

Archbishop Mamberti also noted that nuclear weapons are a threat to humanity, and that as long as they exist, so will the threat. Not only are they useless in fighting poverty, health, climate change, terrorism and transnational crime, but the only way to guarantee that they will not be used again is "by their total, irreversible and verifiable elimination". The secretary for the Relation with States of the Holy See emphasized the central role the IAEA has in this regard.

Nuclear safety is also an important issue as evidenced by the Fukushima Daiichi power plant meltdown last year in Japan. The event exposed the fact that a local nuclear crisis is a global problem. "It also revealed that the world is exposed to real and systematic risks, and not just hypothetical ones," he said. Therefore, he stressed, the adoption of appropriate technical and legal measures is vital.

The archbishop praised the Technical Cooperation Program (TCP) of the agency, which is dedicated to "transferring nuclear science and technology to Member States in order to promote social, economic and integral development". Archbishop Mamberti also warned of the danger in using bio and nuclear technologies "solely on the basis of immediate economic interests".

In the context of the TCP, the archbishop stressed the fact that 50% of patients diagnosed with cancer would benefit from radiation therapy, while in the developing world, more than half of the patients diagnosed with cancer do not have access to radiation therapy due to the lack of equipment and trained staff. The prelate applauded and encouraged the IAEA to continue with their efforts in planning and furthering cancer-control programs.

Archbishop Mamberti concluded his statement saying that "the cultural and moral development of every person and all peoples" was more important than the material development and commended the IAEA's contribution to "peace, health and prosperity".
