East Texas communities discuss rail service connecting DFW, ETexas, La.
Officials from Tyler and neighboring communities came together Friday to discuss the feasibility of expanding passenger rail services, connecting East Texas and Louisiana with the Dallas-Fort Worth area. While there is no funding in place to immediately enhance area rail service, that could one day change if there is enough support for the new connectivity, officials said. Friday's meeting at the Tyler Rose Garden was purely informational with no formal actions taken, officials said.?This is just a chance for us to unveil it and see if there's buy-in from our partners up and down the corridor,? Barbara Holly, Executive director, Tyler Metropolitan Planning Organization, said. ?This is something we've been working on for several years.?
Elected leaders from communities extending from Dallas to Bossier City were among the almost 80 people who attended Friday's gathering, organizers said.
