Disney?s delightful Wreck-It Ralph opened with a $49 million haul over the weekend, making it the most successful opening for a Walt Disney Animation feature to date. Naturally, that means they?re already talking about a sequel.
Director Rich Moore is discussing ideas for a Wreck-It Ralph 2,?and he highlighted a few of the directions they might take in a recent video interview.
?If we should be so lucky to do a sequel, I think it would be great to explore online gaming, home games? we have some ideas of how?
It was fun to kind of begin it in an arcade and I think that really tapped into the nostalgia that that has attached to it. But if we were to do a sequel I think we need to bring it up to date. So we?re working on ideas, should we do one, that would bring it into modern gaming, not just arcade galleries.?
Moving from the arcade to the online gaming and home console space certainly makes sense from a technology evolution standpoint. An online-focused Ralph sequel could actually be pretty cool. Maybe they can even work a Tron crossover in there somehow.
This is all early stages conjecture, of course ? so there could be all sorts of changes in direction before a Wreck-It Ralph sequel ever hits the animation stage, but we like where this is heading. What do you guys think? Check out the video interview with Moore below. [via Bleeding Cool]
Early Concept Art Shows Off a Different Ralph
If that?s not enough Wreck-It Ralph excitement for one day, have a gander at these cool early concept art pieces that show what the characters might have looked like.
What?s really interesting is that early designs for Ralph had him looking far more beastly. The red color scheme factors into all the designs (except in one strange model that looks sort of like a caveman-era Bigfoot), but it appears as though Ralph didn?t become a human until sometime later in the development process. Do you like any of these early designs better than the finalized Ralph in the film?
